Rapid growth, incredible innovations and technology that is likely to change the way we live forever.

Are we talking chatbots or the automotive industry here? Fact is, this sentence could relate to either at the current time, with new developments and ideas being talked about every day in both industries.

However, these two areas of aren’t just tied by the speed with which they are being developed, but also the way in which they are or could work together to revolutionise the automotive industry.

Simplified Taxi Ordering

Let’s kick this off with a chatbot application which has already changed some aspects of the automotive world such as how you would go about ordering a taxi. Although apps like Uber have made it easier to book a taxi, in many cases you need to talk to a human to ask specific questions around the journey.

These questions can vary from whether the car is dog friendly through to physically booking the taxi at a time that will get you where you want when you want. New chatbots eradicate the need to make these calls and simplify the process. So, right now you can order and ask questions via chatbot, but a real human picks you up…

Self-Driving Cars

We have all been witness to the excitement around the introduction of driverless cars to the road and are aware of its immanent commercial viability. But will they really work in practicality?

Uber’s EX-CEO Travis Kalanick has shared his thoughts on how their future might work in practise with the introduction of chatbot technology. At the World Government Summit in Dubai, Kalanick communicated his vision of driverless pick-ups. During his speech he shared his thoughts on how chatbots would have to be implemented for practical elements such as locating your ride once they are in the immediate area

Voice Assisted Systems

In the more immediate future we are likely to see a number of changes in the way we interact with our cars through chatbot technology.

We have already seen promising developments in this areas. Namely at the Auto Expo 2018, where Maruti Suzuki worked with Grapes Digital in order to create a chatbot which would be used to provide information about the event as well as their products and services.

Although certainly a show gimmick, it proves Maruti Suzuki’s commitment to introducing chatbots as well as the industries attention to the technology as a way in which to innovate. The team have announced that they plan to build on the system with application to navigation and general driving assistance once it is ready for wider roll out to the general public.

Car Diagnostics

Although not yet advanced in its application, this use of chatbots as the interface with car diagnostics is likely to rise in the coming years.

As the industry advances, so to have the sensors and telematics associated with the running condition of the car. Some modern cars give a whole host of information on what is currently or could potentially go wrong which allows users to remedy issues before they become very expensive or even potentially life threatening.

As car manufactures continue to increase the insight into the cars condition as well as making it easier for drivers to keep costs down, chatbots will likely be developed to help drivers find out information fast. This is particularly useful when the driver is unable to type questions about their diagnostics into a search engine and wants to keep safe on the road.

It is clear that chatbots and the automotive industry are fast moving and changing the way we live. It is also apparent that chatbot technology will play a key part in how we interact with vehicles in the future. This is particularly true when driverless cars become a reality, offering us a touch point of information.
